About Jenny Newman

Jenny has practiced Reiki for 25 years and became a Teacher 20 years ago. She is professionally trained and a graduate of The International House of Reiki, whose aims and vision are to support and promote the ancient Japanese practices and esoteric teachings.

Jenny says:
Reiki is within us all, regardless if we have been ‘attuned’ into the system, which is a very western ideology.

Reiki is my passion and my life, it has taught me not to hold on to anger and worry, but instead  to be true to myself and my own true nature. This can be difficult at first, but with practice and living in the moment it becomes much easier. Letting go of ego, anger and worry is liberating and fulfilling, compassion quickly takes their place. Being compassionate to ourselves allows us to be compassionate to others.

The Roots of Reiki are very deep, so in order to discover more about this ancient practice, I continue to study every year with my teacher Frans Stiene, who in turn studies with his teachers in Japan. Reiki is an ever increasing circle of wonder.

I offer support at all times, and the student can come and refresh their course as many times as necessary to gain confidence and understanding in their daily practice, this support is free for a year.”

Jenny holds Reiki sharing sessions every month/six weeks, for students to spend some time together discussing their experiences. On these days she practices meditation and mindfulness and, of course, Reiki.

My trip to Sarajevo

My reiki journey opened up areas that I would never have thought possible. I joined a charity and volunteered to go to Sarajevo, Bosnia giving Reiki treatments to victims of war, who had been raped, tortured, held in concentration camps and those suffering severe injuries from the constant bombardment of shells surrounding the city.

This was a truly humbling experience and one which I will never forget. The people were stoic and proud, they had nothing, their homes had been destroyed, their livelihood gone, and most of all the pain of not knowing where their missing loved ones were, and witnessing their sons and husbands shot in front of them.

The city was scarred and hurt, and the people of Sarajevo suffered the most appalling atrocities and loss of freedom. To give a Reiki treatment in this bombed out City was very challenging, as some people couldn’t get to our mortar, mice infested, damaged clinic. So we the volunteers, would go to them in outreach villages to give them some relaxation, and for their memories to heal just a little.

My fellow Practitioners and I, hung on for dear life in the little car that took us to outreach. It literally felt like ‘One Wheel on the Wagon’ and we used to almost push it up the hills. Actually it was very funny and it always got us to where we were needed.

I went back to the beautiful hurt city three times, and each time the infrastructure improved.

With time the Bosnian people will recover, but their memories will live on, the pain of this mindless war that took so many lives is palpable, and some will never come to terms with it.
